The Western Isles, The Royal Hotel And Other Stornoway Hotels

Stornoway, or more accurately, Steornabhagh (Gaelic), on the Island of Lewis in the Western Isles/Outer Hebrides of Scotland, is the main town of the district and the administration centre. To the first time tourist to the Western Isles/Outer Hebrides Stornoway can appear faintly boring however Stornoway has some really lovely areas including, possibly the best, the wonderful Lews Castle grounds. More recently the Local Council have invested considerable amounts of cash in beautifying of Stornoway in various ways such as by creating small gardens and fountains and even large art installations such as the herring girl just by the car park. Besides the reality that Stornoway possess a small selection of positive aspects in regards to visitor attractions that are certainly intrinsically pretty there are also a large number of highly respected places worth visiting which are within driving distance of Stornoway itself, such as the highly popular, and incredibly photogenic, Calanais(Callanish) stone circle.

Lewis has a great deal to offer the visitor not least the breathtaking golden shores, found to the south west of Stornoway, or the ancient Dùn Chàrlabhaigh Broch, which can be found about 1km down the road from the aforementioned Calanais(Callanish) stone circle. With such a large selection of excellent places to hand Steornabhagh is, more than likely, the most suitable base for your Lewis vacation. So the only task ahead is choosing which Stornoway hotels to stay in.

The Caberfeidh Hotel is Steornabhagh’s most luxurious hotel. Built on the road out of Stornoway, across the road to the heavily wooded grounds of Lews Castle ( which are there to be enjoyed), this is the hotel you should choose if you would prefer a more relaxing atmosphere for the duration of your stay on the Isle of Lewis.

The Royal Hotel is Steornabhagh’s most historic hotel and is situated right at the very heart of the town, (well, a very short walking distance from it), and overlooking the marina with the Castle grounds in the distance. This is the Stornoway hotel you should choose if you would prefer to be close to the action for the duration of your stay on the Isle of Lewis.

The Caladh Inn is Steornabhagh’s biggest hotel offering the largest selection of rooms. Built on the road out of Stornoway, but on the airport road (on the opposite side of town to the Caber), this hotel is another that is within a short distance of Stornoway town centre and all of the facilities available there.

Whether you decide to book the Cabarfeidh Hotel or one of the other Lewis hotels you can be certain that your Outer Hebrides holiday will be one to remember.
